TRANQUILLE À ROULETTES:
AN OPEN-AIR ROLLER DISCO ON ESPLANADE TRANQUILLE
SEPTEMBER 5 TO OCTOBER 25, 2026
Montreal, August 5, 2026 — The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is pleased to announce Tranquille à roulettes, the transformation of Esplanade Tranquille into a free open-air roller disco open days and evenings from September 5 to October 25 this year. Montrealers and visitors, beginners and experts: everyone is invited to put on their roller skates or rent a pair on-site to enjoy skating to great disco tunes. This year’s edition opens with a special event called Boogie Night: the return of the roller disco era, a festive launch party hosted by Skate with Marly, on Friday, September 11. It’s an ideal way to extend your summer in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles!
An evening of dancing and celebration with Skate with Marly
Tranquille à roulettes celebrates roller skating with a unique event on September 11, starting at 5 p.m., featuring skaters from around the world.
From 7 to 11 p.m., Esplanade Tranquille will host Boogie Night: back to the roller disco era, an extravaganza hosted by Skate with Marly, a leading Montreal-based roller dance company. Inspired by the golden age of roller discos, the evening invites skaters of all ages to experience the atmosphere of the roller disco era, when people got together to dance, enjoy the music and make friends. Everyone is invited to put on their favourite retro outfit to make the experience fully immersive.
Throughout the evening, experienced skaters and beginners alike will have the chance to participate in plenty of activities, including the iconic Soul Train Line, in which two rows of skaters face each other and take turns boogieing their way to the front. Backed by a soundtrack of disco, funk, soul and other retro classics, the evening will also be punctuated by group dances and fun challenges.
Marly and her troupe will also put on two performances, at 8 and 9:30 p.m., showcasing the amazing creativity, energy and artistry of roller dance.
Weekly gatherings
Until October 25, Tranquille à roulettes presents a special program that will delight experienced and novice skaters alike.
Each Friday evening (except September 25) from 7 to 10 p.m., the Patins Platines series has local DJs lights up the dance floor: Arielle Roberge (September 11), Bolarinho (September 18), Ruby Jane (October 2), Cidoine (October 9), Groove Galore (French Vanilia + AP BABY, October 16) and DJ BlackGold (October 23).
Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., two instructors from Montreal store Lowlife, which specializes in roller skates, offer introductory lessons so that beginners can get started and more experienced skaters can perfect their moves.
Finally, on Saturday, October 3, the Brigade littéraire from Le Fil presents an original artistic performance on roller skates.
A unique setting in the heart of downtown
Esplanade Tranquille becomes a true roller dancefloor thanks to a lively setup featuring disco balls, colourful decorations, vibrant lighting by Bruno Rafie, music and original video projections creating a festive ambiance from morning to night. At all times, Tranquille à roulettes invites the public to skate for free in a setting inspired by the iconic roller rinks of the disco era. On-site rentals of skates and safety equipment are provided by Patin Patin.
