PRESS RELEASE

LUMINO 2025–2026: Montreal Winter at Its Most Dazzling

Sophie Cadieux is this edition’s LUMINO spokesperson

Montreal, November 12, 2025 — Starting November 27 this year, LUMINO returns to dazzle us by transforming the Quartier des Spectacles and the wider downtown core into a vast luminous playground. This winter’s edition, the event’s 16th, presents more than 30 works to light up the city all winter. Most of the works are original creations by local artists. The program can be enjoyed at more than 15 indoor and outdoor sites, each one inviting people to explore Montreal differently – on foot, from installation to installation throughout the downtown core.

The spokesperson for the 16th edition of LUMINO, actress Sophie Cadieux, invites everyone to discover every facet of the event and celebrate the beauty of the season downtown, bathed in beautiful lights.

“To me, LUMINO is a Montreal winter tradition that’s perfect for sharing. It’s free, it’s beautiful and there’s always something new,” Ms. Cadieux said. “We keep coming back again and again with friends and family to enjoy the city in new ways. I’m delighted to serve as spokesperson, because LUMINO embodies everything I love about Montreal: its creativity, boldness and ability to make winter a joyful time.”

An Iconic Winter Experience to Enjoy Again and Again

LUMINO is more than just a reason to go for a stroll, it has become a not-to-be-missed part of winter in Montreal, and a flagship downtown tourist attraction. From November 27 to March 8, visitors will explore an original sequence of lighting designs linking the different areas of the vast LUMINO territory, and creating a warm atmosphere throughout the route, from east to west in the downtown core.

True to its participatory spirit, LUMINO presents an evolving experience in three key segments:

  • November-December: LUMINO celebrates the Holiday season, including a glittering launch event on December 3; the general public and the media are both welcome.
  • January: arrival of new major works.
  • March: special programming during winter break.

Workshops for families and light-based games will also be part of the event, including a piece by Ottomata, Sagesse de foule, from November 27. The public is invited to get together and get active while experiencing the mass dynamic of the crowd. On Sainte-Catherine Street, outside Place des Arts, smart luminous towers will sense participants’ movements, transforming the space into a large immersive and collaborative playground.

Works to Admire All Winter

Several spectacular installations will light up the heart of downtown all winter:

  • On Sainte-Catherine St. West, France’s TILT Studio presents Anemonia and Shadow, two luminous sculptures inspired by plant life in the sea and on land.
  • On Sainte-Catherine St. West, outside Place des Arts, Unicode Haïku Extension by Fred Sapey-Triomphe makes light and poetry dance, while Sagesse de foule by Ottomata invites the public to warm up with a fun test of reflexes.
  • At the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Celestia by KLEIS evokes the Pleiades star cluster.
  • Entre maintenant et l’infini by Jeremy Shantz, at the Eaton Centre, invites viewers to take a contemplative break.

Starting in mid-January, an interactive video projection titled Le coffre à jouets dégivré by Ottomata and Doki will light up the Esplanade Tranquille skating rink. This original creation, presented collaboratively by Tourisme Montréal and the Partnership, will transport skaters into a world of games and toys reminiscent of childhood.

Building façades in the downtown core will also shine with creations by Iana Brezeky, Teo Leroo and Marie-Ève Drolet, three young artists whose video projections depict poetic visions of winter.

Les Voyageurs Lights Up Five Hotels

Among this edition’s new attractions, Cédric Le Borgne’s outdoor artwork Les Voyageurs will take flight in front of five downtown hotels—Hôtel HoneyRose Montréal, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, DoubleTree by Hilton Montréal, Montréal Marriott Château Champlain and Hyatt Place Montreal Downtown—made possible thanks to the support of Tourisme Montréal and the collaboration of the Greater Montréal Hotel Association.

Composed of suspended luminous figures, these poetic sculptures invite passersby to look up toward the sky. They weave a connection between dream and reality while creating a luminous dialogue between the hotels and the public space.

Major Works to Discover in January

January marks the arrival of three major new works:

  • Chronoharp, a monumental installation by Amigo & Amigo, energizes the Promenade des Artistes.
  • Horizon, by Olivier Landreville, presented on the Esplanade PVM at Place Ville Marie, presents luminous cocoons and dreamlike vistas.
  • Climat intérieur, by Mirari, a world premiere presentation on Emery St. in the Quartier Latin, immerses viewers in the changing ambiance of miniature houses exposed to a variety of climatic conditions.

A Signature Montreal Event with International Reach

Produced by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, LUMINO celebrates the creativity of local and international artists, transforming the downtown core into an open-air museum. With more than 1.5 million visitors attending last winter’s edition, the event is well established as the cornerstone of Montreal’s winter strategy, inviting people to explore, be amazed and return throughout the season.
