Montreal, March 13, 2025 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership was delighted at the public's enthusiasm for the second season of Les Glissades Gamelin, the urban sliding facility of the Quartier des Spectacles. Held from January 16 to March 9, 2025, this edition included the addition of a new refrigerated hill for sledding and the heated chalet L’Après-glisse with the Café Tranquille counter. This project is part of the effort to promote the Quartier des Spectacles’s Quartier Latin hub in winter. It offered families and young people an opportunity to get active outdoors for free and discover both snow sports and the joys of winter in the city. The Association of Quebec Ski Areas (ASSQ) was present throughout the event to share their love of winter and introduce visitors to winter sports. With the success of this second edition, Les Glissades Gamelin will be back in January 2026: get your boards ready!

Three hills and six runs to embrace snow sports

With its three hills and six runs, Les Glissades Gamelin was the ideal winter playground for families and young people! A new addition this year, the refrigerated hill La FOMO, allowed even more people to go sledding on its four lanes. The two other snowy hills, La MOLLO and La YOLO, gave people of all ages the opportunity to learn or practice snowskating and snowsledding in a fun and inviting setting. After enjoying the slopes, everyone was invited to gather at the heated chalet L’Après-glisse to warm up, take a break and relax. This year, Les Glissades Gamelin was open through spring break to welcome families to the site a little longer.

Partners that helped energize the site and welcome families

Thanks to the support of many partners, a varied and rich program of activities and themed days was presented to the public. The Association of Quebec Ski Areas (ASSQ), a major partner of Les Glissades Gamelin, welcomed visitors into its converted container every weekend to teach them about the many facets of Quebec’s ski resorts through educational videos, fun signage and enriching exchanges with ski ambassadors. Accompaniers were also present on La MOLLO to introduce kids 12 and under to snow sports using a training snowboard without bindings.

With partners’ support, five special events were hosted over eight weekends: the Whiteout Jam snowskate competition with the Ambition Snowskates team; Le jour de la mascotte; the Olympiades Gamelin, hosted by Sandri Landri, who brought drag artists to the slopes; the delightful local products offered by Tourisme Montérégie and the ASSQ; and Igloofête, which ended the season with an exciting DJ night during Nuit Blanche.

Thank you to the partners who were crucial to the success of Les Glissades Gamelin: Ambition Snowskates, the Association of Quebec Ski Areas, BUSAC Real Estate, the Saintlo Montréal youth hostel, the BAnQ, La Cinémathèque québécoise, LE CENTRAL Manger Montréal, GO Jeunesse, HEH inc., EMPIRE, Hyatt Place Montreal Downtown, Igloofest, the Maison Théâtre, the Cégep du Vieux Montréal, the MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises, Productions Médusa, Université du Québec à Montréal, the restaurateurs of the Société de développement commercial du Village and the Société de développement commercial du Quartier latin and Tourisme Montérégie.

Les Glissades Gamelin are a production of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership. This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of the borough of Ville-Marie and the Ville de Montréal.

Quotes

“With this second edition of Les Glissades Gamelin, we wanted to provide a strong winter atmosphere in the Quartier Latin hub of the Quartier des Spectacles and introduce Montrealers to winter sports for free in a safe, adapted setting. We are pleased to see that families and our many partners, including the Ville-Marie borough and the ASSQ, responded enthusiastically. The Quartier des Spectacles is now an unmissable and unique urban winter destination offering both winter sports and culture,” said Éric Lefebvre, Executive Director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

“Participating in Les Glissades Gamelin provided us with a great opportunity to share the magic of winter sports with Montrealers and visitors to the city. We are delighted to see that our presence allowed many families to discover snow sports in the heart of the city and learn about the winter experiences offered at Quebec’s 73 ski resorts. This edition marks the beginning of a beautiful collaboration, and we are excited to return to the Quartier des Spectacles next winter. We would like to thank the Ministry of Tourism for their financial support of this project and our many collaborators, including the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, for this magnificent initiative,” said Yves Juneau, president and CEO of the Association of Quebec Ski Areas.
