PRESS RELEASE

Montreal, May 15, 2025 – The cultural heart of Montreal will be hopping all summer with some 22 festivals and events, starting this weekend with Pouzzafest. From now until the fall, festivals featuring music, dance, theatre, film, literature and circus arts invite Montrealers, festivalgoers and visitors to make the most of summer in the public spaces and indoor venues of the Quartier des Spectacles. Several iconic events are celebrating milestones this summer, including the 45th edition of the Festival international de jazz de Montréal, the 35th edition of the Indigenous Peoples’ Festival and the 30th annual Festival Accès Asie

“Summer in Montreal is synonymous with festivals! That’s as true as ever this summer, thanks to a rich and diverse set of events in our downtown core and other neighbourhoods. Our festivals are an opportunity to celebrate our culture, showcase local and visiting talent, and animate our public spaces with countless unique experiences. This year, our administration has invested a total of $8 million to support our events, all summer long. Whether you’re a Montrealer or just visiting, I hope you’ll make the most of the cultural vitality that makes our city such a wonderful destination. Enjoy the festivals!” said Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal and of the borough of Ville-Marie.

Festivals: drivers of cultural and economic vitality

Each week from May to the end of September will feature spectacular festival programming. Whether indoors and ticketed or outdoors and free, festivalgoers will find something for every taste, age and budget. The 22 festivals happening in the Quartier des Spectacles reflect Montreal’s rich cultural diversity and celebrate culture in all its forms.

In addition to generating local economic benefits that underscore culture’s key role in ensuring downtown vitality, these events contribute greatly to the city’s global reputation and showcase our local culture.

“The Quartier des Spectacles is the place to go for summer culture and entertainment in Montreal. From Les Jardins Gamelin to Place des Festivals and Esplanade Tranquille, for the next four months our public spaces will overflow with the excitement of festivals and events. Whether our visitors are Montrealers or tourists, first-time or regular festivalgoers, our many events offer accessible, unique, crowd-pleasing experiences,” said Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles
