Opening evening at Les Jardins Gamelin, 2023
Press release - For Immediate Release
A RAP QUÉB OPENING NIGHT
On May 30 at 5 p.m., Super Plage will get the ball rolling with a DJ set built around electro-pop beats, French house pop and fresh Quebec sounds. Next up is rapper Parazar, a révélation Radio-Canada honouree for 2023-2024, who will treat the crowd to a variety of ambiances and sounds with her tunes ranging from hip-hop to house to raï. Finally, at 8:30, Sarahmée and her dancers will turn the party up a notch, taking Montrealers on an Afrobeat, trap and pop odyssey.
10 YEARS OF GROWING CULTURE
Two new dance and music series will be part of the extensive tenth-season program. Les Jardins d’Illusion, a series extending from the Illusion electronic music and visual arts festival, will invite visitors to immerse themselves in eclectic urban and natural sounds and ambiances spun by up-and-coming Montreal-based DJ collectives. A series of evenings called Du streetdance avec 100Lux will provide an introduction to street dance, featuring battles pitting dancers against one another as they freestyle to spontaneous musical selections.
All the Jardins Gamelin classics will also be back: midis à la carte (lunchtime classical, jazz and pop music, among others), evenings on the dancefloor with Salsafolie and the DJ sets of Planète Gamelin. Crafting workshops with Les Affûtés, games with Randolph and improv nights with La Ligue d’Improvisation Musicale de Montréal (LIMM) will deliver plenty of unforgettable summer moments in Les Jardins Gamelin! The full list of series for the 2024 season will be announced on May 30.
Finally, urban agriculture will once again be at the heart of Les Jardins Gamelin, with Sentier Urbain carefully tending the site’s thematic gardens and greenhouse. And the large terrasse, with its lush vegetation and friendly vibe, will be back along with the snack bar by Les Survenants.
