Théâtre Duceppe
Renowned for its ability to bring people together and to tackle social issues head on, Duceppe produces five shows at Place des Arts each season, in addition to a series of En rappel and 5 à 7 shows. Founded by Jean Duceppe in 1973, the company also organizes one or two tours of regional theatres in Quebec each year. An innovative and popular company from the outset, Duceppe was the first to stage Quebec adaptations, at a time when theater was performed in the Parisian style and still seemed reserved for the elite. Apart from favouring contemporary works that address the cultural and social concerns of the day, Duceppe also gives pride of place to national dramaturgy. Since 2017, the company has awarded writing residencies that enable artists to write a new play thanks to a $15,000 grant offered by the Fondation Jean Duceppe.
