Festival international de la littérature (FIL)

For three decades, the Festival international de la littérature (FIL) has been celebrating writers from near and far. The only Montreal festival devoted to the written word and dedicated to promoting reading and writing, FIL brings together some 200 writers and artists from here and abroad over a ten-day period. The festival takes place mainly in venues not traditionally associated with books, such as theaters, concert halls, cinemas, and even public spaces. A not-to-be-missed event at the start of the new cultural season, FIL is also active year-round throughout Quebec—and increasingly abroad—through its touring shows and participation in book fairs and other festivals. Since its creation in 1994, FIL has distinguished itself by forging ties with other cultural institutions and multiplying its collaborations to bring literature to all corners of the globe.
