Serving as both a library and exhibition center for contemporary art, Artexte is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, interpretation and enhancement of documentary material produced in the field of contemporary art. Artexte boasts a unique collection of over 30,000 publications covering all aspects of the visual arts from 1965 to the present day, with a particular focus on Quebec and Canadian productions. Over 80% of acquisitions come from donations by the artistic community. Its mission includes curating documentation, supporting research, presenting exhibitions and new works as well as publishing critical texts and artists’ books. All its activities are linked to the permanent collection and to issues of visual and print culture in contemporary art. While supporting the experimental and innovative character of contemporary visual arts, Artexte aims to integrate these art forms in a multidisciplinary field of reflection through the development of alliances and partnerships.
