Urban Dance, Creativity and Passion at the JOAT Festival international de street dance
Until September 1st, the JOAT Festival international de street dance invites the public to celebrate the diversity of African-American dance through a rich program of performances and artistic activities in iconic venues across the Quartier des Spectacles. Immerse yourself in the energy of a unique event where urban dance, creativity, and passion come alive.
To make the most of every facet of the festival, the JOAT and Danse Danse teams have put together a special itinerary for Friday, August 29.
August 29, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Main Stage, Esplanade de la Place des Arts
Kick off your festival adventure at the JOAT HIP HOP Battle pre-selection, where dancers deliver thrilling, high-energy performances as they compete for a place in the grand finale. Only the 16 best performers will move on to compete on the Club Soda stage later that evening. Your energy, reactions, and enthusiasm help drive the competition!
August 26–31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Exhibition Room, Place des Arts
Then, head to the Exhibition Room at Place des Arts to explore the richness of Montreal’s street dance scene through a series of black-and-white portraits by Do Phan Hoi, a dancer from this community. Each photograph pays tribute to the artists who shaped this culture and sensitively captures the living memory of a unique movement.
