Summer is finally here, and the long-awaited season brings with it a surge of cultural activity around the city. The streets of Montreal may be overflowing with life, but fans of musicals, theatre and concerts know that the most eagerly anticipated cultural events happen indoors, in the downtown core’s many performance venues. Here’s a look at the most intriguing summer shows happening in the Quartier des Spectacles.

The team behind Sophie’s Surprise, which delighted festivalgoers in 2024 and 2025, is back with a new show inspired by ‘80s TV game shows. This preview run of Défis déjantés is both hilarious and filled with breathtaking acrobatics—it’s at the intersection of sports, comedy and circus arts. Emceed by Pascale Marineau, it promises high-level circus acts and audience participation. Buckle up!

Évangéline – The Musical

A period piece about the tragic deportation of the Acadians, Évangéline – The Musical is an ambitious production with a message of love and hope. The musical, directed by Jean-Jacques Pillet, stars Maude Cyr-Deschênes, Olivier Dion, Océane Kitura Bohémier-Tootoo and Laurent Lucas. It celebrates the passion of two revolutionaries and the bonds between French colonists and the Mi’Kmaq Nation.

Les Misérables

This ambitious musical inspired by Victor Hugo’s classic novel Les Misérables had a triumphant run in Paris and won the 2025 Molière award for best musical. The exceptional cast is led by Alex Gaumond, Dominique Côté and Debbie Lynch-White, who bring the tragic story of Jen Valjean to life through hit songs including J’avais rêvé and Le Grand jour.

Malian singer Oumou Sangaré will be in Montreal for the 40th anniversary of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique. Internationally acclaimed as one of the greatest voices in contemporary African music, the activist artist, nicknamed “the songbird of Wassoulou,” will perform selections from her extensive repertoire, built up over four decades of delighting audiences.
