The ancient treasures of Bulgaria

The poster exhibition “The Ancient Treasures of Bulgaria” was prepared by a team from the Institute of Balkan Studies and the Centre of Thracology “Professor Alexander Fol” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, within the framework of the National Scientific Programme “Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The exhibition consists of panels measuring 70 × 100 cm, featuring photographs of gold and silver objects of exceptional historical value—precious vessels, jewellery, weapons, and other artefacts discovered throughout the territory of present-day Bulgaria. Among them are masterpieces from the world-renowned Panagyurishte Treasure; examples from the Chalcolithic Necropolis of Varna, representing the oldest worked gold in the world, dating from the 5th millennium BC; as well as vessels from the Borovo, Valchitran, Letnitsa, Rogozen, and other treasures.

The objects presented constitute invaluable testimony to the high artistic achievements of Antiquity and impress with their remarkable ornamentation, elegance, and craftsmanship.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
