Montréal-based artists of the 1980s took a particular interest in installations that bring into play the architecture of the spaces for which they were specially designed. Taking place in private apartments, abandoned sites and atypical spaces, their site-specific interventions stemmed from a desire to eschew the traditional circuits of art exhibition.
This documentary exhibition—part of the research project Créer à rebours vers l’exposition examining the history and documentation of exhibitions in Quebec—aims at charting the development of this phenomenon in the city between 1980 and 1989.
