PETER GIBSON, AKA ROADSWORTH, BEGAN HIS CAREER PAINTING ON THE STREETS OF MONTREAL IN THE FALL OF 2001
ROADSWORTH has the genius of the street artist who can distinguish himself by creating works that intelligently interact with its surroundings, inspiring conversations and raising awareness.
According to ROADSWORTH, the recent social acceptability of urban art has diverted it from its original function of provoking reflection by creating controversy. “In my opinion, says ROADSWORTH, street art is in its true expression an illegal activity. Not that its illegal nature is important in itself, but that it is an inevitable consequence of interacting in the public space in a spontaneous and unmediated fashion.”
“The essence of street art can not be reproduced in a context of a legal exhibition. This does not mean that there is no value to authorized urban art, such as mural art, but I do not consider it to be truly street art.”
Artist biography
Peter Gibson, alias Roadsworth, got his start in fall 2001 by painting in the streets of Montreal. Initially inspired by a desire to see more bike paths in the city and challenge our obsession with cars, he developed a distinct artistic language incorporating street art and other components of the urban landscape, using primarily a stencil technique. He now creates works all around the world and continues to explore his talents in music and the visual arts.
