Cool breeze giving you chills? That’s not just the weather, it’s Halloween’s spine-tingling teaser! From ghouls and goblins to zombies and ghosts, you’ll find all the scary things in the Quartier des Spectacles!

Because Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, the festivities start today and will continue for a whole week. Here are 6 frightful activities for you to enjoy with friends and family. Boo!

Horror night at SPASM

The SPASM Festival’s big horror night is more than an annual event, it’s a tradition that attracts an ever-growing audience of people who love a good scare! For the 17th year in a row, the festival will screen the best short horror films from Quebec and around the world. It’s always a fantastic ambiance, with startled screams alternating with bursts of cathartic laughter. Who says horror can’t be funny?

Complexe Desjardins

To make the most of Halloween as a family, head for the Grande-Place des Fantômes, a free event in Complexe Desjardins. Everyone from the merely curious to dedicated collectors will love this market, with more than 30 vendors offering horror-related objects, movies and art. The event also features a dance show called Scream, a scary – and highly entertaining – show for kids and adults. Children can also visit the makeup booth, ride the little train, be dazzled by a magician – and much more!

Zombie Walk

Place des Festivals

If you’ve never been part of this unique parade of the living dead, what are you waiting for? It’s become a true Halloween tradition! Starting at 3 p.m., Sainte-Catherine Street will be thick with zombies, shuffling toward Place des Festivals to be serenaded by Japanese surf-rock dynamos TEKE:: TEKE and American psychedelic superheroes King Buffalo. Come dance along!

40th anniversary screening of Halloween

Théâtre Sainte-Catherine


Halloween, the cult classic by John Carpenter, introduced audiences to the unforgettable psycho killer Michael Myers – 40 years ago! The Halloween MTL festival invites you to see it again at Théâtre Sainte-Catherine, where it will be accompanied by a short film and a documentary about the horror classic. The interactive screening is hosted by the hilarious comedy team of Les Pic-Bois and followed by a Halloween-themed costume party – but you’re still welcome even if you aren’t dressed up as one of the characters from the film!

Old School Halloween Party

Halloween isn’t just about trick-or-treating and watching horror flicks, it’s also a great time to put on a creepy costume and dance the night away! And the SPASM Festival’s Old School party is ideal for both. Come out and shake it to the best tunes from the 1980s to the 2000s with DJ Mathieu Beauséjour, while artists Kitana, Pillow and Mademoiselle provide the visual effects. Be warned – you won’t get in without a costume!

Ghosts of the Red Light District

Where can you find Montreal’s ghosts? Follow your guide, a professional storyteller, on this tour of haunted places in the Quartier des Spectacles – guaranteed bloodcurdling fun. A great opportunity to explore some historic sites while hearing the old Red Light District’s creepiest tales and most tragic mysteries.
