MOMENTA | Biennale de l’image (formerly Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal) presents, in collaboration with Galerie B-312, Jin-me Yoon | Other Hauntings: A Geography Beloved from September 9 to October 14.

The relationship between place and identity is at the heart of Jin-me Yoon’s (Canada) work. In the videos Other Hauntings: A Geography of Love (Dance) and Other Hauntings: A Geography of Love (Song), both filmed in Gangjeong (South Korea), the artist explores the notions of history, memory, and landscape. Ten years ago, the equilibrium of this fishing village was obliterated when the South Korean government decided to build a naval base there, destroying the local sacred rocks and causing great upheaval in the village. With these pieces Yoon aims to account for this conflict without explicitly referring to it. She concentrates on the testimonies and gestures of two of the island’s inhabitants, who have become poetic symbols of resistance. She captures what the eye does not see.

Mix and Match Tour: A Mix and Match Tour combining a guided tour of the exhibitions at Galerie B-312 and some of the satellite exhibitions takes place on October 7th at 12:30 p.m.

So you won’t miss anything in the 2017 edition, a detailed program is available for free at all of our exhibition partners and on momentabiennale.com.
