Fratres, heard here in its version for strings and percussion, is without a doubt one of the most moving works by Arvo Pärt. It mystical depth contrasts here with the grotesque humour of Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano and Trumpet, which abounds with numerous references to the Classicism of Haydn.
