The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership

THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES PARTNERSHIP

Since its foundation in 2003, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership has been at work promoting the district and its many assets. The Partnership provides an opportunity for district actors from the cultural, university, economic, and other communities to work together and seek common ground. In its earliest years, the Partnership developed a vision for development, created a visual identity, and established the district’s first collective projects.

Today, following the City of Montréal’s consolidation of its mandate in May 2009, the Partnership pursues a broader and more active mission. It exercises neighborhood leadership by programming cultural activities, managing public spaces, and enriching the district’s cultural general attractions. In addition, it promotes and contributes to the development of Quartier des Spectacles as a world-class cultural destination. Lastly, it seeks to establish collective projects, such as the Quartier des Spectacles’s Luminous Pathway.

MEMBERSHIP

Like the enormous transformations that have swept through this part of downtown, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is taking a major step in its development by opening up its governance. All of the partners working in the area are now invited to become Partnership members and participate in the cultural development of this downtown district.

The membership form can be found at the section Together.

An ambitious mission

The mission of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is to contribute actively, in concert with public authorities and the various stakeholders active on its territory, to the cultural development and enhancement of Quartier des Spectacles, by integrating urban, social and economic considerations into all its activities.

These activities include:

  • Enhancing and preserving the neighbourhood’s cultural assets, particularly those related to the performing arts and performance venues;
  • Bringing life to the neighbourhood by organizing cultural activities;
  • Managing public spaces and specialized facilities used for cultural activities;
  • Providing special lighting in the Quartier des Spectacles;
  • Promoting and developing the Quartier des Spectacles as Montreal’s cultural heart and an international tourist attraction.

Board of directors

The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is made up of 17 area stakeholders, including representatives from the culture, real estate, education, and business sectors, as well as local residents, the Borough of Ville-Marie, the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec.
