Press Release | For immediate distribution

Montréal, December 5, 2024 – Building on an already promising winter lighting strategy, Tourisme Montréal and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership are proud to announce their integration into the LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International) network, an international network of cities committed to the innovative use of light. As new associate members, the two organizations aim to draw inspiration from best practices implemented in renowned cities such as Paris, known as the City of Light, and New York.

Lighting plays a central role in the urban experience. A thoughtful approach to lighting is therefore essential to beautify the public spaces of the harmonious destination that is Montreal.

The strategic plans of Tourisme Montréal and the Quartier des spectacles Partnership both emphasize the importance of optimizing the seasonality of the tourism offering and the vibrancy of the activities in the city throughout the year. "From 4 PM onwards, a lit downtown is crucial to enhance the visitor experience. Montreal is positioning itself as a city of light in, showcasing iconic projects such as the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the Notre-Dame Basilica, as well as flagship events like MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE and LUMINO," said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourism Montréal.

"Light has been in the DNA of the Quartier des spectacles for over 20 years. Our return to the LUCI network is significant for us to draw inspiration and share our vision of LUMINO and its ephemeral light installations, which make the Quartier des spectacles and downtown Montreal a unique place for artistic expression and winter entertainment, as much as they delight many cultural districts around the world," said Éric Lefebvre, Executive Director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

By joining the LUCI network, Tourisme Montréal and the Quartier des spectacles Partnership are committed to promoting urban lighting that is conscious, creative, and captivating for both residents and visitors. This network will provide the necessary tools and access to a broad pool of expertise to continue Montreal's winter animation strategy and make the city a must-see, luminous, and harmonious destination.
