AATOAA's HABITAT and a joint project with UQAM brought back for MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE

Montreal, February 20, 2020 - The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is pleased to join forces with MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE to present Habitat, the new installation by Caroline Robert and Vincent Morisset from digital studio AATOAA. Also on the festival’s lineup are Faux-semblant a project by the UQAM graduating class in media creation/interactive media, and the prototype installation Cascades from Collectif Blackbox, both running until March 1st, 2020. This is a great opportunity to discover one-of-a-kind, hands-on light installations guaranteed to brighten up Quartier des Spectacles public spaces in the dead of winter!

HABITAT, a fabulous diorama designed by AATOAA

Inside a lit box lies a miniature universe populated by plants, animals and humans. A house travels through landscapes and time, wondering what type of home it could be in each of the fantastic worlds it visits and illuminates on its journeys. The founders of the AATOAA studio, Caroline Robert and Vincent Morisset, are long-time contributors to the Quartier des Spectacles and have presented their interactive installations Côte à Côte and BLA BLA there. Habitat is a production of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE and AATOAA.

MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE AND THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES: CREATIVE PLAYGROUNDS

The Project Faux-semblant, produced by graduating students in the UQAM communications program, comprises three separate works, Booth, Di(rec)t and Noticia, as well as an architectural projection on the topic of “fake news”.

For the last 10 years, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership has been supporting UQAM students studying media creation and interactive media, giving them opportunities to put their new skills into practice and to exhibit their creations, backed by the Partnership’s own teams.

After presenting Chimes at Illuminart in 2018, Collectif Blackbox is returning to the Quartier to explore a brand-new encounter with the public in Cascades, an installation inspired by the musical instrument rainstick. Still a prototype, the preview exhibition is designed to ascertain how well the installation stands up to winter conditions and test its interactivity. The final version of Cascades will be presented at MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE in 2021.
