AUGUST IN LES JARDINS GAMELIN: ELECTRONIC FUN, SWEET COUNTRY SOUNDS, CRAFT MARKET AND CHILDREN’S PARTY!

Montreal, July 30, 2015 – August in Les Jardins Gamelin was full of great surprises for Montrealers and visitors, and August is set to be just as much fun. The August program of events and activities features the summer’s third Piknic Électronik event. Place Émilie-Gamelin will also be the hub for Montreal Pride for one week. Then, put on your cowboy boots for three days of great live music with Montréal Country. Also, during the first week of August, the Jardins Gamelin Craft Market will set up a variety of stalls. Finally, on the last Saturday of the month, families won’t want to miss Chromatic, a full day of activities for kids.

Les Jardins Gamelin is an essential summer gathering place, full of discoveries and entertainment, and the perfect place to go and relax with friends, seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

JARDINS GAMELIN CRAFT MARKET

On August 1 and 8, local artisans will transform the space into a public market with a dozen stalls selling natural cosmetic products, jewellery, home accessories, and sweet and frozen treats.

PIKNIC ÉLECTRONIK: MORE EXCITING THAN EVER!

On Thursday, August 6, DJs and dancers will once again take over the space, following up two previous parties that people are still talking about. This time, Île Soniq joins Piknic Électronik and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership (co-presenters of the event with). Electronic music fans of all ages, or anyone who’s curious about the genre, are welcome to come to Les Jardins Gamelin starting at 5 p.m. to dance to the beats supplied by DJs Ryan Playground, The One Tash and Prince Club – plus a very special surprise guest. Don’t miss it!

MONTREAL PRIDE

From August 11 to 16, Montreal Pride adds a splash of colour to Montreal life with a big slate of activities, including several held in Les Jardins Gamelin. On Sunday, August 16, don’t miss the spectacular annual Pride parade through downtown, ending in the Jardins and capped of by the MÉGA T-DANCE and the closing concert by Rita Baga.

MONTRÉAL COUNTRY

From August 21 to 23, Montréal Country presents more than 20 country and folk concerts on the big stage, including Annie Blanchard and Yoan. This is the festival’s first edition held in the Quartier des Spectacles. It’s a great chance to come out, dance, party and sing along to some great tunes.

CHROMATIC IN LES JARDINS GAMELIN

On Saturday, August 29, Chromatic and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership will give kids an extra day of summer break. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a series of creative workshops for kids: puzzle-style costume making, origami, painting on a giant canvas, gardening and an art market. Then, starting at 6 p.m., parents and other music lovers will be treated to a concert by several up-and-coming local artists.

OTHER ACTIVITIES IN AUGUST

Dancing continues every Monday at lunchtime with RISE BEAT. On Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Alors on dance continues its swing and salsa lessons. Musical acts include DJ Andy Williams of The Goods Soundsystem, and the Midis de l’Escalier to brighten up the noon hour. Every Friday afternoon, audience members request their favourite records during Turntable Night. The Samedis de la relève concert series presents emerging artists starting at 9 p.m. every Saturday. On two Tuesdays this month, the Soirées oratoires present comedy and slam poetry. Don’t miss Slam Montréal with IVY on Tuesday, August 25 and karaoke every Sunday afternoon. Plus, every Tuesday at 4 p.m., the public is invited to tour the gardens. On August 30, Sentier urbain will hold an urban agriculture workshop focused on harvesting fruit grown in the city. Regular programming will go on hiatus for two weeks, during Pride Montreal and Montréal Country (August 10 to 23).

GET IN SHAPE!

Mondays at 12:15 p.m. and Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m., Cardio FIT continues, to the delight of outdoor exercise enthusiasts. Plus, anyone who enjoys yoga should be sure to come out for weekly yoga every Tuesday at noon.

FOR VISUAL ARTS LOVERS

Janet Echelman’s hanging illuminated sculpture, 1.26, will continue to amaze for the entire month. The same goes for the stunning digital collage 9 x [MTL] by Gabriel Poirier-Galarneau and Vincent Bilodeau, will be projected on the building façade of Place Dupuis every night after sunset.

This outdoor market in the heart of Les Jardins Gamelin features the work of local artisans who make natural cosmetics, jewellery, household accessories, and sweet and frozen treats.

7:30 and 9 p.m. > SAMEDI DE LA RELÈVE with KEY OG and DO MI
This band, whose sound features funky experimental grooves, is led by multi-instrumentalist Étienne Miousse. KEY OG is inspired by Bonobo, RJD2, Dave Matthews Band and Ratatat.
DO MI is a singer-songwriter from Montreal with influences rooted in jazz and soul from the 40s through 60s, along with contemporary pop and house sounds.
