Saint-Denis Street will once again become Mont Saint-Denis from March 1 to 3 for APIK’s skiing and snowboarding competitions!

Press release | For immediate release

Montreal, January 30, 2024 – The Association des sports d’action (ASA), the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and TRIBU are pleased to announce the second edition of APIK, the winter sports event on Saint-Denis Street. This year’s edition will run from March 1 to 3, 2024. Following up last year’s inaugural edition, which hosted 100 local and international athletes and attracted some 47,500 festivalgoers to the heart of the Quartier Latin, APIK is bringing the alpine spirit back to the city! Saint-Denis Street will be transformed into Mont Saint-Denis, the site of exciting skiing and snowboarding competitions. Professionals including Olympian Alex Bellemare. as well as amateurs will be able to display their skills on the slope for the appreciative audience. Everyone is invited to start winter break in APIK’s active, festive, adrenaline-charged ambiance!

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING COMPETITIONS

Quartier Latin, on Saint-Denis Street between Sherbrooke East and Ontario, March 1 to 3. Free.

TRIBU, which also created the JACKALOPE action sports festival, is back this year with a refreshed and improved concept that’s just as bold as ever. 100 male and female athletes will vie for $25,000 in prizes. They will be judged on their moves and style as they swoop down the hill. The competition course will be custom-built for the event, and it will provide a tough challenge for the participants as they make their way downhill amid the street’s electrifying sounds and lights. Because watching the competition is just as exciting as being in it, large crowds are expected. The industry’s biggest brands will also be there!

Snowskate enthusiasts will be able to compete against each other on the Friday, while the public is welcome to try snowskating on the Saturday.

APRÈS-SKI, OF COURSE!

Bringing the alpine spirit to the city means that Saint-Denis Street in the Quartier Latin will be transformed, setting the stage for amazing ski days – and some fantastic après-ski! Thanks to the participation of local merchants, the neighbourhood’s ambiance will be enhanced day and night.

To help make the most of APIK, Fireball and l’Abreuvoir Bar & Terrasse will host après-ski on their heated terrasse on March 2, welcoming the athletes from the competition and everyone who wants to keep the party going!

This event is produced by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, is made possible by the support of the Association des sports d’action (ASA) and by the financial support of the borough of Ville-Marie, Tourisme Montréal and the Gouvernement du Québec, with the collaboration of SDC du Quartier latin and the Ville de Montréal. APIK also benefits from the generous support of White Claw, Fireball and Shop Santé. APIK is an original concept by TRIBU.

QUOTES

“Montreal is our playground! Whether with JACKALOPE, which is now a series of North American events, and now with APIK, we are creating and developing daring concepts that inspire unique adrenaline-charged moments. Our mission is to highlight action sports by creating opportunities for communities to get together, celebrate their passion and reach the next level. With APIK, we’re bringing the spirit of the mountains to the city, and we’ll get to see some amazing talent up close,” said TRIBU president Micah Desforges.

“Following the success of the first edition of APIK, in 2023, we are very pleased to collaborate with TRIBU again this year for the second edition. It will be a memorable event that helps position Montreal as a top winter destination! Together with Les Glissades Gamelin in Place Émilie-Gamelin, these projects bring energy and attention to the Quartier Latin and highlight our Nordic lifestyle. Thanks to partners like the borough of Ville-Marie, the Ville de Montréal, the Gouvernement du Québec, Tourisme Montréal and SDC du Quartier latin, we are revitalizing this essential part of the city. I thank them for supporting this event,” said Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors for the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this exceptional winter event to the heart of the Quartier Latin for the second year in a row. APIK brings new energy to our neighbourhood, enhancing its wintertime attractiveness,” said Rachel Van Velzen, executive director of SDC Quartier Latin.
