The fall online festival season is starting!

Fall. It’s a season synonymous with exciting cultural events, and in this very strange year its festivals are more welcome than ever. In the Quartier des Spectacles, the month of October will feature a plethora of online events celebrating music, film, literature, comedy and digital art. Overview.

MUSIC!

Nuits d’Afrique keeps the music playing from September 27 to October 31. With everything from Tuareg blues to Afro-Colombian music, the event includes 25 online shows.

In early October, Montrealers will get another great dose of jazz thanks to the OFF Festival de jazz with online shows. Highlights include the superb trumpeter Lex French, expressive pianist Gentiane MG, virtuoso guitarist Simon Legault, the captivating electro-jazz of Sienna Dahlen and the jazz-metal of Lawful Citizen.

From October 1 to 10, it’s time for MUZ - Le rendez-vous des musiques métissées. The event will be all-online this year, with a raft of new sounds to discover, showcasing the music of the world inflected with a variety of Western influences. Oktopus, for example, gives Eastern European klezmer music intriguing new arrangements. Then there’s Ramon Chicharron, whose music is heavily influenced by Latin and Caribbean sounds – with a dash of electronica.

MOVIES!

African film, with its amazing diversity, many forms and far-flung origins, is the centrepiece of this year’s Montreal International Black Film Festival, entirely online and available nationwide until October 4. The festival will screen more than 120 films from 30 countries, including a fine selection of American films, five Haitian productions, a handful of features from France and, of course, numerous films from African countries including Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Kenya and South Africa.

You’ve got to laugh

Don’t miss the Just for Laughs festival’s online event on October 9 and 10. The 2020 edition is built around conversations between funny people, so you’ll get to see, for example, Hannah Gadsby and Deanne Smith trading zingers.

A little digital art

The MAPP_MTL festival is back with the videoprojection Un monde Multicolore on the facade of the Grande Bibliothèque until January 31, 2021. A monumental creation to celebrate diversity and harmonious difference by artists Charlotte Risch and Thaïla Khampo and more than thirty children.
