Main text of post

For the month of July, Montrealers’ favourite urban oasis opens up to the world of circus, turning into a colourful outdoor stage where the circus arts will flourish! Performances and workshops of all kinds will delight young and old audiences alike. Here’s a glimpse of the surprises waiting for you at les Jardins over the coming weeks.

A LOVE AFFAIR WITH MONTREAL

Don’t miss Rouge, a circus show now underway as part of MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE. The production is a dizzying, passionate love letter to Montreal on the occasion of its 375th anniversary. Twice a day, accomplished artists will take your breath away with acrobatic feats performed in a pyramid-shaped stage hanging above the crowd. This 30-minute show will be presented July 6-16 at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and July 17-30 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (No shows on July 10, 24 and 25.)

STIMULATING WORKSHOPS

At les Jardins Gamelin, we offer you the chance to leave the comfort of the stands and get your hands dirty in the circus ring. Professionals will be offering public workshops to allow you to try out key disciplines like juggling, Chinese plates, flower-sticks and even the hula hoop. Workshops are held weekdays from noon to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Let your inner circus artist run free - there’s no better place to clown around!

CIRCUS PERFORMANCES

Whether it’s lunchtime or 5 à 7, the circus ambiance will reign supreme over les Jardins. Performers from Montreal, France and Mexico will show off their skills on the unicycle and the Cyr wheel, and at balancing, clowning and juggling. The performances, which promise to delight and thrill, will take place Monday to Friday at 12:15, 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. Shows on Saturday are at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m.

THE TASTE OF THE CIRCUS

The snack bar at les Jardins offers up a delicious menu of sandwiches, salads and French fries, as well as tacos and poke bowls. And with the arrival of MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE, the menu has been expanded to include Cupid’s Wings, a dish of “rabbit wings” served with Red Hot and Alabama hot sauces, coleslaw and a waffle. Pick up a red velvet cupcake, and the Orpheus cocktail, a Honolulu Mai Tai served with a popsicle. All so you can enjoy the circus atmosphere with a delicious drink and snack in hand.

SUMMER IS ALWAYS ON AT LES JARDINS

Alongside the stellar circus programming at les Jardins Gamelin this July, the site’s regular activities continue as usual. Family mornings begin Sundays at 9:30 a.m., with shows and art workshops designed to spark the creativity of younger children. Also, kids aged 0-12 years and their families are always welcome at la Maison jaune for circus-themed activities. La Maison jaune is open Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Whether the sun is shining or not in Montreal, you’ll never be bored at les Jardins Gamelin!
