Main text of post

Monique Jérôme-Forget, Chair of the Conseil du trésor and Minister responsible for Government Administration, along with Line Beauchamp, Minister of Culture and Communications, made their announcement.

The request for qualifications seeks private partners for the conception, construction, financing, use, and maintenance of Montreal's new concert hall, principally for the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM). The announcement was made accompanied by Jacques Chagnon, National Assembly member for Westmount-Saint-Louis.

The Minister of Culture and Communications appointed Jean Roy, who oversaw the completion of the Grande Bibliothèque du Québec, as director of the project.

The hall will be built on the northeast portion of the Place des Arts esplanade. In 15,000 square metres of space, the hall will include 1,900 seats and the stage will be able to accommodate 200 choristers and 120 musicians at once.

This exercise is carried out in collaboration with Partenariats public-privé Québec, and will lead to the announcement of qualified candidates in April 2007, the launch of the request for proposals in June 2007, and the signing of an agreement in May 2008. The inauguration of the hall will take place later, in 2011.
