Saint-Sulpice Library to become performance space

The Quebec Ministry of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women has agreed to transform the Saint-Sulpice Library at 1700 St. Denis St. – a vacant historical building owned by the ministry – into a performance space for Montreal’s many purveyors of contemporary music and musique actuelle. Le Vivier, named after the late Montreal composer Claude Vivier, will unify 22 Montreal organizations, including the flagship contemporary-music society SMCQ, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, as well as smaller ensembles like the Quatuor Molinari and electronics-based groups.
