The Quartier des spectacles Partnership enthusiastically greets the start of construction of the Maison du développement durable. The building will house a centre for environmental reflection, education and innovation, helping to consolidate the Quartier des spectacles as a creative node.

"With its many diverse functions, the Maison du développement durable will help repair the urban fabric of Sainte-Catherine Street and bring life to the street all year round. The start of construction is very, very good news for the Quartier des spectacles" said Partnership president Charles Lapointe.

One of the most environmentally friendly buildings in Canada, the sustainable features of the new building will set the pace for future projects in the Quartier des spectacles. The cultural heart of the metropolis is undergoing a rapid transformation, and environmental issues play a central role in this shift.

The groundbreaking is the most recent of the many construction projects underway in the area: Sainte-Catherine Street itself, the Parterre, the Promenade des Artistes, the Addresse symphonique, the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, the Grand foyer culturel at Place des Arts and, soon, the 2-22 building. Such an exceptional set of circumstances requires an equally exceptional set of measures to deal with it, and area stakeholders are working together to help maintain easy pedestrian, cyclist and auto access to the many activities on offer at the Quartier des spectacles.
