Famed saxophonist Joe Lovano has played with the greats, including Herbie Hancock and Charlie Haden, and heads back to the Festival with Us Five, a magisterial outfit filled out by drummers Francisco Mela and Otis Brown III, bassist Peter Slalov and pianist James Weidman. You can’t go wrong with this fusion of talent and creativity, as ably proven by their 3rd album, Cross Culture, released on Blue Note in 2013.
