Nuits d’Afrique is celebrating its 30th birthday. And so is raï! The person who is probably its best known ambassador, or at least the one who has disseminated its sounds to the widest audience, will be part of the fun. Rachid l’Oranais, the “Zinedine Zidane of raï,” as he provocatively called himself recently in the French weekly magazine Télérama, fully intends, through an array of projects, to bring this festive Arab musical style to the forefront with its rousing character, an anthem to getting along well together.
