LA SONORA TELEMÁTICA

Data is no longer simply a part of our daily lives; it is fast becoming our currency, literally, figuratively and socially. We produce and consume data at an unprecedented rate; we use data to mediate our transactions and our relationships; we fight for data and with data. Despite our awareness of the fact that commercial enterprises collect and analyze this data, we nevertheless leave behind a great deal of unorganized documentation about our personal lives. La Sonora Telemática is an autonomous orchestra-installation that aims to represent this phenomenon by generating an audio landscape comprised of live compositions based on geotagged data from its current location. The orchestra is comprised of semi-intelligent devices, each programmed to have individual personalities and react differently to the signals being processed. Some of the signals will come from pre-existing networks and databases, such as Twitter and Tumblr, while others will be collected by the public during a workshop exploring the city using cameras, microphones and other data-collecting devices. Ultimately, La Sonora Telemática will produce a collective map of the incredible constellation of data that surrounds us.
