A Danse Danse presentation
“Molnar's vision for the 18-member company is to make Ballet BC a lean, mean, contemporary-ballet machine.” (The Globe and Mail, Toronto)
“Fun but not frivolous, the new Ballet BC is physically rigorous, dramatically solid, and truly contemporary.” (Dance Magazine)
Named 2013 Dance Artist of the Year by the Globe and Mail, Artistic Director Emily Molnar has made Ballet BC one of the most renowned contemporary ballet companies of the past few years. She has featured not only her own choreographies, but has also diversified the repertoire by inviting well-known European choreographers to present their works to a Canadian audience. By combining the award-winning Walking Mad by Swedish choreographer Johan Inger together with the zany and sophisticated Petite Cérémonie by the French artist Medhi Walerski and the strange tribal ritual A.U.R.A. (Anarchist Unit Related to Art) by the Italian-born dancemaker Jacopo Godani, she places the spotlight on the multiple talents of her 18 dancers, who perform movements in perfect unison, dazzling duos, theatrical sequences and individualized solo works. Three distinct aesthetics are featured in this stimulating incursion into new choreographic territories.
