REDUCING ASYMMETRY IN INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTIONS

At the crossroads of cultural and economic interests, co-productions are increasingly necessary for some producers to secure the funding required to produce their films. However, these partnerships and their budgetary contributions come with artistic concessions as well as country-specific guidelines and regulations.

Taking the form of cross-case studies between the co-production experiences of producer Yanick Létourneau (CA) of Périphéria and Weijie Lai (SG-CA) of E&W Films, this panel is intended to be a space for exchange and reflection on the different power relations that are ever-present between the different teams in each country during a co-production agreement, and on the potential avenues and working methods for trying to respect and balance the creative contribution of all.
