A man hides out in a cardboard box, a shell that allows him to withdraw from society. Hidden, he watches the world through a small hole and sees its true nature. All the while, he is hunted by strange, perverse individuals determined to unravel the box’s mystery. Adapted from a short story by Kobo Abe (the Japanese Kafka, whose centenary is celebrated this year) and directed by the most rebellious and punk of filmmakers, "The Box Man" plays with the absurd, flirts with philosophical and drifts fabulously towards the mystical. All the while, it confronts our view (and existence) as spectators. Standing alone in the black box of a movie theatre, facing the screen of the world, the art of seeing and disappearing are at stake...
