Modélisations vagabondes by Lydia Yakonowsky
As part of MUTEK Village Numérique
World premiere
In co-production with the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Modélisations vagabondes invites you on an imaginary journey through a series of abstract landscapes: embark on a train at twilight, observing the passing external world. The scenes succeed one another like living tableaux, each unique yet interconnected.
Within these landscapes, luminous points akin to pearls assemble into dynamic, radiant clusters. They float amidst straight lines and color gradients evocative of an ever-changing sky. The fluid movement of these elements and the variety of scenes create a soothing rhythm. This visual experience stimulates the imagination and encourages introspection, transporting you to a realm between dream and reality.
Lydia Yakonowsky is a Montréal-based economist and multimedia visual artist. Starting from the concept of space as an economic phenomenon in which movement establishes all interdependence, she uses visual elements from economic graphs and econometric models to completely reshape their utility. The result is a vast statistical choreography in which dismantled grids, wandering parabolas, and strings of data intertwine, freed from their original function. Her most recent works explore themes of anticipated trajectories and forecast errors.
Her first dome film, Introduction to Econometrics, won the Special Jury Mention at the 2022 SAT Fest in Montréal.
