Investigating transmission and affiliation, French choreographer Maud Le Pladec stages an intense encounter between krump and contemporary dance in this mirror portrait of two dazzling dancers, a surprise hit at the Avignon Festival.
A child prodigy of krump, the fierce urban dance form that emerged in Los Angeles at the turn of the millennium, young Montrealer Adeline Kerry Cruz unleashes all the energy of her 11 years in a stunning first solo. With the help of her mentor, krumper JR Maddripp, she occupies the stage with astonishing ease, transported by the feverish score of Chloé Thévenin, a pillar of the French electro scene. She then passes the baton to Siaska Chareyre, an accomplished dancer with a brilliant command of contemporary dance styles and codes. Each carves her own path, delivering a powerful performance of impressively authentic dance. Silent Legacy weaves the invisible threads that connect these two uninhibited dancers from different cultures and generations. Fascinating.
