From March 14 to April 6, 2024.
"The exhibition “Yiwen n Uxxamiw” (One of My Homes) is a collection of artworks representing the beginnings of a reconciliation between two distinct yet intimately linked cultures and identities through my cultural heritage: one French and the other Kabyle, a Berber ethnic group from Algeria. This artistic journey has laid the foundation of my practice, intertwining themes of genealogy, femininity, symbolism, and spirituality that have captivated me since childhood. This project showcases my exploration and free interpretation of the traditional and ritual crafts of Kabyle women.
Visually, this personal initiatory narrative portrays two women in search of their home in a barren landscape. Their journey exposes them to objects, fauna, and flora linked to their past, present, and future. Through various stages, they discard certain items and adopt others, slowly progressing towards a place taking shape. The visit culminates with the discovery of the long-sought home, materialized in an installation artwork.
The canvases are accompanied by excerpts from poems drawn from the beautiful collection “Reines-compost,” a work co-authored by Rosy L. Daneault and Camille Saint-Jacques Couture." – Clara Tissot
