Karma Glider
Karma Glider (Montréal, QC) – the new project from Heat’s frontman, Susil Sharma – proposes a modern strand of indie rock, punctuated by elements from shoegaze and post-punk. Cavernous vocal melodies, glittering guitar parts, corrugated synthesizer motifs and booming rhythmic influx are layered atop elegantly scattered samples informed by hip-hop, from which the artist draws deep inspiration.
Mother Tongues
2023 sees the release of Mother Tongues' debut LP, Love In a Vicious way. A cyber-psych opus that lurks between the cerebral and feral. At moments, precious and serene; in a blink, snarling, teeth razor-sharp. The songs are charged with sincerity and teenage sentimentalism that captures a time when everything was crucial and felt tenfold. With this record the group is carving out a space for themselves; they are world-building.
Nyssa
With the stage as her altar, the goal is fevered connection, a ritual sense of music as communal release, and Nyssa keens and wails and brings her audience along with her to a place of deep feeling, movement, and joy. Long-listed for the 2021 Polaris prize for her debut solo album Girls Like Me, Nyssa now plays with a killer 6-piece band, a real rock ’n’ roll coven, featuring Lukas Cheung (Mother Tongues), Nastia Koza (KOZA), Jay Anderson (Badge Époque Ensemble, Biblical), Brandon Lim (Yamantaka//Sonic Titan), and Jess Burgess (Essie Watts).
Alix Fernz (FKA BloodSkin)
Multi-instrumentalist Alix Fernz, author, composer and prolific performer from Sainte-Thérèse expresses his musical identity and finds his inspiration in the contrast between hypnagogic pop sounds and the dissonance of post punk. The strident vibrations of the guitar and the melodic chords of old synthesizers unite and connect in a common experience of freedom and expression.
