Sibyl
Sibyl of Cumae was an ancient Greek prophetess who was visited by pilgrims from the furthest reaches of civilization. Her prophecies, written on oak leaves in a sacred cave, sent their recipients into a mystical rapture, in which nature spirits and numerological riddles would reveal the destiny of humankind. In their longform psychedelic video and music series Sibyl, Yoshi Sodeoka and Daron Murphy evoke the transcendence of the prophetess. Influenced by 70s prog rock, mid-century avant-garde, and primal trance, Sodeoka and Murphy’s immersive live performance of Sibyl will reimagine the pieces as they currently exist. Video images and scoring will be manipulated by computers in real time, augmented by the additional live performance of guitar and synthesizer, to create unique remixes of the Sibyl series. The resulting effect will be the evocation of a lucid-dream state.
