A pillar of contemporary jazz, with a 25-year career and a repertoire to match that of the great jazz legends, bassist, singer and composer Avishai Cohen continues to break new ground with Shifting Sands, a sublime, multi-layered new album.
Working in a trio, Cohen gives complete freedom to his pianist, Elchin Shirinov, and his drummer, Roni Kaspi. For him, jazz is above all democratic. He is the creator of ideas, but his collaborators are responsible for the atmosphere. On stage, the trust between the musicians and the joy of playing together is palpable.
