ANTOINE LAROCQUE | ACHETER UNE MAISON, L’ASSURER ET CALICER LE FEU D’DANS

"Acheter une maison, l’assurer et calicer le feu d’dans" is the first solo exhibition at the gallery of the artist Antoine Larocque.

The artist's work unfolds in several shapes and sizes using a surprising diversity of mediums including writing, painting, photographs, images from popular newspapers and magazines or pamphlets and founds objects that he uses to create his works. A used door, a parabolic antenna, a quilt and blanket sheets even found their way into the exhibition.

The title of the exhibition is inspired by the writings of Quebec poet Yves Boisvert (1950-2012) and a copy of his book "La pensée niaiseuse ou les aventures du Compte d'Hydro" published in 2001 is also part of the exhibition next to the satellite dish on which the artist wrote "Call malade" (Call in sick).

The exhibition explores a variety of themes and subjects including the October crisis in the fall of 1970, the trivialization of violence (Se bizonner un gun) the social codes in our societies (Pas de cévé) the alienation and rage of the excluded and the forgotten or those who live on the margins of society. With a clever and often cynical sense of humour, most often unbridled, the artist manages to express with a few incisive words these states of mind.
