Ben Shemie – L’homme à la camera

I was originally asked by La Cinémathèque française in Paris for a Ciné-concert of The Man With The Movie Camera. I admit, I had never seen it before. Of course, I knew about it by reputation but had never spent the time. I finally watched the film, in silence, and tried to get into it. It is a very dense film, and the more you see it, the more you appreciate the scale and the ambition of Vertov. I thought a lot about how to approach this film. It doesn't really seem so at first glance on a laptop, but it is truly a masterpiece. So many details that I'm still discovering on each viewing. I opted for a minimalist approach, that develops over a long period of time.
