The Résidence in situ photography creation program is the result of a collaboration between Maison photo Montréal and the Archives de la Ville de Montréal, whose purpose is to generate a dialogue through images between a territory’s past and its present.
For this 4th edition, photographer Caroline Hayeur was given carte blanche to explore the Saint-Michel district. With the aim of creating new images, the artist reached out to citizens and showed them archival photos from the 1960s, the end result of which is a mise-en-abyme of similarities and contrasts. Local shops, LRHs, the Metropolitan highway, Frédéric-Back park: her juxtapositions of images highlight the character traits specific to this unique district on the island of Montreal. With a keen eye and an affectionate gaze, she captured moments of everyday life in which everyone can relate.
Résidence in situ Saint-Michel is a journey into our past and our present.
