Ziad Rahbani and Lara Rain or when a music icon takes under his wing a young artist of great talent!

The eldest son of legendary singer Fairouz and composer Assi Rahbani, Ziad Rahbani is a Lebanese director, actor, composer and pianist. A rebel at heart and a symbol of the student revolt in Lebanon in the 1970s, Ziad became a social phenomenon and also the subject of many controversies. Whether performing in underground bars in Beirut or the stages of prestigious festivals, he always rouses an intergenerational crowd.

His repertory, passed on to younger generations, overlaps with the path followed by Lebanese-Canadian singer and actress Lara Rain, whose musical career took on a new impetus after a landmark encounter with Ziad Rahbani in 2007. A remarkable talent of the contemporary Arab scene, Lara Rain is among the few soloists who have sung alongside Ziad, whether at major festivals or in more intimate settings. Performing his jazziest songs such as “Sabah w massa,” “Un verre chez nous?” or “Kifak enta?” this singer, with her ethereal voice and unique style, will bring the eternal melodies of Ziad Rahbani to life.

Under the artistic and musical direction of the brilliant oud player Nazih Borish, Lara will be accompanied by top Montréal musicians, including Arden Arpayan on piano, Bertil Schulrabe on drums, Joseph Khoury on percussions and Eli Elijah on bass. Back in her native Canada after the Beirut tragedy, Lara Rain will perform songs by Ziad Rahbani and others by Fairouz as well as a few of her own compositions, immersing us in Lebanon’s bountiful and creative contemporary artistic scene, firmly attached to her traditional roots but resolutely open to the world.
