With millions of albums sold, Gilberto Gil is a leading figure in Brazilian music. This former minister of culture, contributed to the creation of tropicalism, a musical style rooted in dissent and nurtured by rock and African sounds. He has greatly influenced Rommel Ribeiro (who performed an opening act for him) and Rodrigo Simões, two Brazilian-Montréal artists known for moving beyond the beaten track and exploring the origins of their country’s sounds. Rommel Ribeiro, on vocals, and Roberto Simões, on guitar, are offering him a tribute.
