WINTER GUESTS | STORY, STORY, DIE.
Commissioned by both the Paris Opera Ballet and Tanztheater Wuppertal, Alan Lucien Øyen fascinates audiences with his theatrical approach to movement. “Story, story, die.” draws us into the heart of a dialogue between words and movement that’s as captivating as it is unsettling.
Rising star of a new generation of Scandinavian artists, Norwegian choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen works in theatre and opera as well as dance. With his company, winter guests, he has developed a unique signature that blends styles and techniques into sharp movements traversed by spirals, twists and suspended equilibrium.
In “Story, story, die.,” Øyen explores the interdependence between love and lies. But is it really a lie to present oneself in the best light? A voice keeps asking questions as seven exceptional dancers move from one world to another in an austere setting bounded by a door and chairs. As the scenes follow one another, a narrative gradually emerges. Striking.
