Filmed in 2013, edited in 2014 and completed in 2019 by her husband and colleague Mark Foss, Les aventuriers marks the 30th anniversary of Michka Saäl’s career as a director. A journey to the heart of Montréal through portraits of three original personalities (a rummage-sale maven, a painter/collector who retouches artworks, and a former queen of the night), this second posthumous film by the Tunisian-born Montrealer is a tender, empathetic celebration of the everyday lives of people living on the margins. With an approach that stays focused on the human element, the film emerges as the director’s love letter to her adoptive home.
