Is it possible to be both strict and empathetic? Are the limits of freedom palpable, and how do you find them in a school setting? At what age do social classes become tangible? All these questions and more inform Les chiens-loups, a poignant and emotional chronicle of a participatory art experiment conducted in 2017 by actor Alexandre Castonguay with students at the Notre-Dame-de-Protection elementary school in Rouyn-Noranda. By having the students work with the La Fontaine fable The Wolf and the Dog for Dominic Leclerc’s observant camera, he reveals not only the children’s surprising thoughts, but his own.
