For his first feature – a low-budget film that turned out to be a phenomenal success –Guillaume Lambert imagined the story of a filmmaker with an unlikely name, Damien Nadeau-Daneau, who once had the chance to film the famous French actor Denis Lavant, but never finished his movie. Now in debt and facing an uncertain future, Damien wanders and meets several characters – relatives, friends, strangers. These banal yet precious meetings are the titular scènes fortuites (“chance scenes”). Damien is a daydreaming antihero whose poignant melancholy lights up this surprising cinematic collage.
