“Snowbirds”: the term describes Canadians – specifically Quebecers in this case – who spend their winters in warm southern climes. It’s a nickname that can elicit ironic smiles. But for these men and women, sunny winters can spark a second youth. For Judith Plamondon’s camera, Richard, Jean, Gigi and Mimi, all around 70 years old, court and keep each other warm, undermining our preconceptions about old age. They are ready for love, and they’re enjoying their remaining years with passion and intensity. Against the picturesque backdrop of Florida’s Riviera, this highly enjoyable film, full of charming humour, follows their adventures from a respectful distance.
