FRANÇOIS DEMACHY

For the very first time in Montréal, François Demachy, the “nose” behind Dior fragrances, will be joining the panel of international speakers. This master perfumer and storyteller will revisit signature creations Miss Dior, J’adore and Eau Sauvage and how he innovated in creating true marvels Sauvage, Gris Dior and Poison Girl. A fascinating look behind the scenes at how olfactory sensations are created.

Born in Grasse, France (the perfume capital of the world), François Demachy’s childhood undoubtedly shaped his career. Surrounded by all sorts of lovely and evocative scents, he walked through fields of jasmine and rose each day, the blooming of the flowers marking the passing days and months. Working summer jobs in local perfume factories, he soon asked to learn the art of perfume-making. After an arduous career journey, he joined Jean Cavallier Belletrud’s team of perfumers.

In 1978, he joined the House of Chanel and was involved in creating the Bourjois, Chanel, Ungaro and Tiffany perfumes. In 2006, he was entrusted with the unique requirements and traditional know-how of fashion designer and perfumer Dior, endeavouring to interpret Dior’s most mythical olfactory worlds such as J’adore, Miss Dior and Poison. Demachy set to work revisiting these iconic fragrances or coming up with new variations of the eaux de toilette and eaux de parfums with contrasting facets like J’adore Injoy, Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming and Poison Girl. He also gave new nuance to the most emblematic men’s fragrances, like Dior Homme, Fahrenheit and L’Éternelle Eau Sauvage. His creations conquered the public at large and were met with huge international success.

For the 4th consecutive year, Stéphane Le Duc resumes his role of facilitator and commissioner of FMD Talks. An avid follower of the fashion industry, he carefully selected key players of the fashion and design worlds to be part of this great event. Mr. Le Duc is widely known, having worked for more than 25 years as a TV host, a producer and a fashion and culture reporter. We owe him Perfecto, a show that aired in 28 French-speaking countries. He currently holds the title of Editor-at-large at Dress to KILL magazine.
