Iris Esquivel is an educator, writer, and artist from Montreal who travels her city with open ears. We invite you to understand the works on display as disjointed cells from her personal storyboard. They track her experience of moving around in this city and in the world. An admitted eavesdropper, Esquivel takes note of segments of conversation that touch her, and manipulates them like a gel until they coalesce into an illustration. Frequently funny and often surreal, these illustrations are complicated by their titles, and it is in the uncertain space between the text and the image that they communicate their allegorical meanings.
